Exposição Two members of Cepia, Jacqueline Pitanguy and Leila Barsted are on the list of women whose names were given for the Nobel Prize of Peace in 2005 and are portrayed in this exhibition.



CEPIA held the Fifth International Women Human Rights Program Course that took place from November 10th to November 14th in Rio de Janeiro at the Superior Lawyers School (Escola Superior de Advocacia) of the Brazilian Bar Association.

The National Training and Improvement of Magistrates - ENFAM, the Superior Court of Justice promoted from 5 to November 7 in Brasilia, the Training Course for Multipliers on Domestic Violence and the Law Maria da Penha. Learn more about this course and the participation of CEPIA.


New Courts for Domestic and Family Violence against Women will be created in the state of Rio de Janeiro. CEPIA accompanies this process as part of activities that develop the Center for Law Maria da Penha.


The institutions that composes Maria da Penha Law, among CEPIA, were gathered in Salvador, from 20 to 22 October to assess the implementation of Maria da Penha Law. At that meeting were presented and discussed the results of the survey on the operation of DEAMs and Courts of Domestic and Family Violence against Women and held in the cities of Rio de Janeiro, Brasilia, Belem, Salvador and Porto Alegre and the case study on the Court of Ghaziabad. The institutions that composes Maria da Penha Law, among CEPIA, approved sending the motion to the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) to the cutting of Justice to consider the place and violence against women by ex-boyfriend, as a crime of domestic violence and family law should be framed in the Maria da Penha Law. The President of the Court of Rio de Janeiro, Jose Carlos Murta Ribeiro inaugurated this Tuesday, October 28th, at 11am, the new premises of the 1st Court of Domestic and Family Violence against Women which has as Judge Holder, Dr. Adriana Ramos de Mello. The new Tribunal is located at Rua da Carioca 72, City Center, right near the DEAM-Center and the Center for Integrated Assistance to Women - CIAM / RJ. .Learn more about the creation of Courts of Domestic and Family Violence against Women in Rio de Janeiro.



Brazilian women from all over the country are signing a Declaration against the criminal persecution of women who had abortions. Please see the Declaration ( in Portuguese) in Atualidades.



The Project "Siga Bem Mulher", developed by Cepia, with the support of Petrobras and in conjunction with the Secretariat for Women's Policies has traveled several roads in 2008 and truck drivers dress shirt for the end of violence against women. See details.

campaign to increase the participation of Brazilian women in

The Supreme Court of Brazil is helding public hearings to discuss the issue of abortion in pregnancies of fetus with anencephaly. Different sectors of society , physicians, lawyers, representatives of Churchs and of civil society are being heard. Cepia, with the support of WLP organized the Seminar Building Women's Leadership at CEDIM, gathering students, teachers from the Municipal Education Secretariat, community health professionals, handcraft groups and members of paper pricker associations. Click here to know more.




Cepia attended the launching ceremony of the 4th edition of the Caravana Siga Bem Caminhoneiro (Trucker go safe Caravan) that took place in São Paulo on the 16th of June. The caravan is developed by Petrobras and  Iveco Trucks. Seminars and workshops on issues such as environment, traffic safety and legislation are offered to truck drivers besides enrolling them in important social campaigns. Click here to know more.


The World Movement for Democracy has held its V World Congress in Kiev . The buddhist monks who opposed the Burmese dictatorship, the lawyers from Pakistan who opposed the imprisonment of the Chief Justice and the Independent journalists from Somalia received the awards. The World Movement for Democracy (WMD) has launched the report Defending Civil Society in which it dennounces barriers   faced by civil society organizations and by individuals that defend democracy in different parts of the world.
