Cepia signs partnership with Petrobrás and Special Secretariat for Women´s Policies from the Federal Government of Brazil to implement the Project Women go safe. Activities were developed in the cities of Maringá (PR), Chapecó (SC), Itajaí (SC) and Embu (SP) to inform and raise awareness among truck drivers about the issue of violence against women. In partnership with Fundação Oswaldo Cruz / Instituto Fernandes Figueira, Cepia has organized workshops to train Health Professionals of the Public Health Sistem of three cities in Rio de Janeiro state. The main objective of the workshops was to sensitize the health professionals to the Human Rights and Sexual and Reproductive Rights dimensions as guidelines for their work in delivering family planning services. The II National Conference on Public Policies for Women took place in Brasília.
The Conference was opened by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and attended by more than 2550 women from different parts of the country.

At the occasion Jacqueline Pitanguy was honoured for the advocacy work develop by the National Council for Women`s Rights, which she presided, to assure women’ s rights at the Brazilian new Contitution.

Violence Against Woman - A Guide of Defense, Orientation and Support

Cepia has launched the 6th reviewed and extended edition of the publication Violence Against Woman - A Guide of Defense, Orientation and Support. The launching was on August 13th, at 17h, in the CEDIM/RJ, at Camerino Street N. 51, Center, Rio de Janeiro. This Guide is already available for download here. Women's Learning Partnership

CEPIA is part of a network of organizations that are partners of Women's Learning Partnership for Peace and Development (WLP , an NGO dedicated to the promotion of women's empowerment and leadership. WLP works in articulation with 18 organizations from different countries, particularly those with a Muslim majority.

Within this partnership, CEPIA has translated and adpted to Portuguese the manual Taking of Decisions: Manual of Training for the Woman´s Leadership, having organized pilot workshops for the adaptation of the Manual to the Brazilian reality in 2005 and an evaluation workshop in 2007. Other meetings and workshops will l be developed in 2007 in order to diffuse and disccuss the Manual.

The Brazil Fund for Human Rights a pioneer  initiative in the promotion of human rights in the country. It has just concluded the selection of the 21 projects that won the Fund' support in 2007 The many projects presented trace a panoramam of human rights in Brazil. Violence Against Women in the International Context: Challenges and Responses

CEPIA launched in 14th of June the book Violence Against Women in the International Context: Challenges and Responses, edited by Jacqueline Pitanguy and organized by Andrea Romani, Helen Lawrence and Maria Elvira Vieira de Melo, with the support of Ford Foundation. The book presents and analyzes context of 8 countries; South Africa, Brazil, China, Egypt, India, Palestine, Russia and the United States, pointing out demographic highlights, partner-economic and politicians with gender sort, main aspects of violence against woman and the laws, mechanisms and public politics with woman in vigor in each one of these countries.

WLP (Women´s Learning Partnership)

The WLP Organization (Women in Partnership for the Peace and Development) was held in Antalya, Turkey, in beginning of June of 2007, a meeting with representatives of organizations of diverse countries of the Middle East and Africa, congregated over all the Islamic women who had debated on questions the human culture, religion, rights and politics. CEPIA participated of the debates, in the quality of partner of this international net.


 

Global Health Council

The Annual Congress of the Global Health Council was held in Washinton, DC between June 29th and July the 1st The congress congregated 2000 specialists in health with different disciplines around the theme Partnerships for the Health. CEPIA was represented by Jacqueline Pitanguy who was also to co-chair of the event and was part of the table “Less Talk, Lives Action: Forging Partnerships will be the Well-being of Women”.
