Between September and November of 2002, CEPIA, in partnership with the Rio de Janeiro Municipal Health Office, worked on a project designed to sensitize health professionals working with women victims of sexual violence. Here you find the folder produced by this partnership.
 

On the 5th, 6th and 7th of November 2002, Jacqueline Pitanguy and Rosana Heringer will participate in the VIII ABEP (Brazilian Population Studies Association) Annual Meeting, that will take place in Ouro Preto. There, they will participate in a debate about Affirmative Action in Brazil: strategies and challenges pos-Durban. Jacqueline Pitanguy will also take part in the discussion session entitled “Violence, the state and the standard of life of the Brazilian population”.


In November 2002, the article "Bridging the Local and the Global: Feminism in Brazil and the International Human Rights Agenda", by Jacqueline Pitanguy will be published in the periodical Social Research, v.69, n.3, Fall 2002.



On September 11th, 18th and 24th, Cepia along with the Municipal Health Office, offered the Second Course on Caring for Women Victims of Sexual Violence, intended for health professionals working in the emergency departments of the major public hospitals in Rio de Janeiro. Three more courses are to be held in November of 2002.



Jacqueline Pitanguy took part in the International Workshop About Good Practices in the Education of Youth and Adults on September 9th and 10th ,2002. The workshop was promoted by the Brazilian Commerce Chamber.



On 08/22/2002 Jacqueline Pitanguy participated in a meeting about Gender and Public Politics organized by the National Women's Rights Counsel and the National Women's Secretariat. The meeting took place in Brasília.

On 08/19/2002, Jacqueline Pitanguy made a speech in the event for the release in Rio de Janeiro of the book "Gender, Democracy and the Brazilian Society", organized by Cristina Bruschini and Sandra Unbehaun, and edited by the Carlos Chagas Foundation and Editora 34. Jacqueline contributed to this book with the article, "Gender, Citizenship and Human Rights".

From August 13th to August 16th of 2002, Jacqueline Pitanguy participated in the seminar "Measuring the Efforts of Health Public Policies: Evaluating the impact, promises and limits in a human rights perspective. The seminar was organized by the Harvard University Public Health School, Boston, U.S.A.



On July 25th and 26th of 2002, Jacqueline Pitanguy participated as a teacher of the virtual program PRIGEPP - Programa Regional de Formacion em Gênero y Políticas Publicas, promoted by FLACSO (Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciências Sociales), located in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Jacqueline wrote the article "Democracias, Ciudadania y Estado em America Latina em el Síglo XXI: anàlisis de gënero de los caminos percorridos desde la dècada del 80 y futuros possibles".

8/16/2002, CEPIA, in partnership with the State Secretariat for human rights, the International Development Bank and UNIFEM,organized between the 15th and 16th of August the Women´s Citizenship Seminar: Weaving a Solidarity Net.



8/2002 - Charlotte Bunch, director of the Center for Women´s Global Leardership from Rutgers University, Rebecca Cook, Toronto University professor, and Roxana Carrillo from the New York UNIFEM got together at CEPIA on August 8th, 2002 with women leaders in Rio de Janeiro to discuss Human Rights After September 11th.



5/2002 - Cepia working along the SID (Society for International Development) organized in May of this year the Regional Latin American and Caribean Dialogue About Reproductive Rights and Violence Against Women: Roles and Responsibilities of young men and adults.
